of course this is upcoming, but we are impatient for it to happen. Apple won't do it I think, as they have too much time and money wrapped up in selling computers themselves and would shoot themselves in the foot doing this. So some start-up will need to do it first....

Interesting. Let's push it slightly further. If Apple can squeeze a Mac into an iPhone, they would most probably soon be able to embed a small beamer in its back (they keep shrinking in size lately, don't they) and a laser beam projected keyboard in the front (widely available today). Get your iPhone standing on flat surface and you then get the keyboard & mouse pad drawn on the table while the iPhone projects its screen against a vertical surface, be it a wall or a sheet of paper... Magic, isn't it ?

There are hurdles to overcome (batteries, brightness,....) but I wouldn't be surprised to see it appearing in this form as the ultimate portable device ... even bringing the iPhone Desktop concept to rapidly become legacy...

Just my 2 (euro) cents :-)

I'd want the iPhone to slide in only about a half-inch, so I could use the iPhone screen as a second - albeit small - monitor. Wven though it is small compared to the normal monitor, it'd be a nice place to run system widgets, streaming video, etc...

Certainly there is no sense in wasting the iPhone's display space by sinking the phone all the way in.

Gnarly: Apple already has filed patents for <a href="http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/new_apple_docking_patent_app_portable_sliding_into_side_of_display_imac/" title="this" rel="nofollow">. This is where the author's post is coming from, even though he's not citing his sources. It was all over the mac rumor sites in January.

Since axosoft doesn't support the mac, why should we care what this guy says?

dude i seriously think this idea should be submitted to apple. it seems totally plausible and that they should put some focus on this concept.
